About this observation +
Positions, illumination, lunar age and phase events are calculated with Astronomy Engine. The calendar samples each day at noon; its event markers show the exact quarter-phase times. All dates and times use your device’s time zone.
The lunar globe uses colour and elevation maps from NASA’s Scientific Visualization Studio / LRO, with changing libration and sunlight. Lunar north is up. Earthshine is enhanced to reveal the unlit surface; eclipses, local sky rotation and weather are not rendered.
Rise and set assume a level sea horizon and standard atmospheric refraction. Mountains, elevation and weather can change what you see. Tropical zodiac signs divide the ecliptic into twelve equal parts. “Supermoon” uses a full-moon distance below 360,000 km; “micromoon” uses a full-moon distance above 405,000 km.
